📜 Narrated 'Uqbah bin 'Āmir: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said: "If there was to have a Prophet after me, it would have been 'Umar bin Khattāb." 📗 Ahmad [17405] 📗 Jami' at-Tirmidhī [3686] 📗 Al-Mustadrak 'alas-Sahīhayn [4495] 📗 Al-Mu'jam al-Kabīr [822] & others ---- all by the way of Mishrah Bin Hā'ān, from 'Uqbah Bin 'Āmir, from the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ). _________________________ 📗 Al-Mu'jam al-Kabīr [857] ---- by way of Yahyā ibn Kathīr an-Nājī, from Ibn Lahī'ah, from Abī 'Ashānah (who is Hay ibn Mu'min), from 'Uqbah ibn 'Āmir, from the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ). _________________________ 📗 Al-Mu'jam al-Kabīr [475] ---- at-Tabrānī also narrates this from his shaykh Ahmad ibn Rishdīn, from Khālid ibn Abd-is-Salām, from al-Fadl ibn al-Mukhtār, from 'Abd-ul-Lāh ibn Mawhib, from 'Ismah ibn Mālik, from the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ). 🔎 This hadīth was weakened by Ahmad, al-Haythamī, al-'Ajlūni, at-Tirmidhī, as-Shawkāni, Mahīr al-Fahl, Abdullāh as-Sā’d and others. ◾As for the hadīth of Ahmad, at-Tirmidhī, al-Hākim and at-Tabrānī, it was graded Munkar by Imam Ahmad [al-Muntakhab min 'Ilal al-Khallāl: pg-191]. This is due to Mishrah Bin Hā'ān, although he was considered as trustworthy by Ibn Ma'een but Ibn Hibbān said about him, "He makes mistakes and differs" [Kitāb ath-Thuqāt li Ibn Hibbān: 5/452] – meaning in his narrations with others who are more reliable. Ibn Hibbān also said that, "He narrated Munkar reports from 'Uqbah Bin 'Āmir for which there is no corroborating report, so the right thing to do is ignore those reports of which he was the only narrator [Tahdhīb at-Tahdhīb: 10/155]. ▫️Al-'Uqaylī listed him in his book Ad-Du'afā' ~ a book of narrators he considered weak [Kitāb ad-Du'afā' al-Kabīr: 4/222]. ▫️And after narrating the hadīth, at-Tirmidhī said, "This hadīth is hasan gharīb; we only know it from the hadīth of Mishrah ibn Hā'ān." The classification of ḥasan gharīb by at-Tirmidhī is in fact a criticism against a hadīth and weakening it, and not a grading indicating that it is a good narration as some have misunderstood. ◾The hadīth of at-Tabrānī [al-Kabīr: 857] includes Ibn Lahī'ah who is da'eef (weak), and Yahyā ibn Kathīr an-Nājī is majhūl (unknown). ◾Another hadīth of at-Tabrānī [al-Kabīr: 475] includes al-Fadl ibn al-Mukhtār. Abū Hātim said: His ahadīth are munkar, he narrated false reports. Al-Azdi said: His ahadīth are very odd (munkar). Ibn 'Adī said: His ahadīth are Munkar, most of them have no corroborating report. [Mizān ul Aitedāl: 3/358] 🎙 Shaykh al-Muhaddith Māhir al-Fahl (حفظه الله)
