The workshop ‘AI in+form’ explores Artificial Intelligence (AI) informed design pipelines and data-flows, focusing on solar design. It constructs an architecture, both in 1) its speculation on the future of participatory light-harvesting in urban contexts and 2) the data-flow between software architectures within design production. AI is being studied as rule/agent-based and machine learning (ML) systems. Working with constraints of proprietary softwares, the combinatorial pipeline interfaces Rhino, Grasshopper, Houdini, and Python implementations of algorithm Pix2pix. Combinatorial means computational components can be arranged freely according to the defined inputs as iterative feedback loops. Equally, form-finding is not simply taken as optimal resultant shapes, but information that acts as protocols and instructs the aggregation and distribution of elements, operating in a strict relationship with an environment and its available energy.
