In July 2019, the shocking death of VG Siddhartha, founder of Cafe Coffee Day (CCD), sent a shiver down the spine of the entire India. It also signaled a potentially disastrous future for the iconic brand.
In 1996, the first store of CCD India opened in Bengaluru. By 2014, CCD expanded to the whole of India and abroad. But from 2015, it started to fall into debt. The Income Tax department also accused the brand for Tax Evasion of 700 Crores. By 2019, the total debt of CCD rose to 7000 Crores.
On 26th July 2019, VG Siddhartha commited suicide.
In Comes Malavika Hegde, CCD tied up with various international players, did some cost cutting strategies and focused on Customer Delight.
Today, CCD has more than 1500 outlets, revenue is increasing at a rapid pace and debt is now only 440 crores. All the credit goes to Malavika Hegde.
