Sclerotherapy Risk - Part 2 Some risks of sclerotherapy include the possibility of having an allergic reaction to the solution. This is extremely rare and completely unpredictable. We do have emergency medications on site, and the staff is properly trained on how to handle an emergency situation if it arises. Another risk is that there could be some permanent discoloration of the skin overlying the treated vein. it may look like an old bruise or coffee stain. Again, it is not possible to predict who will discolor. The people who are on iron supplementation or who tan or use tanning lotions have a higher risk of discoloration. Certain skin types may be more prone to discoloration. Skin ulcerations may also occur the site of injection as some of the chemical leaks out of the vein into the tissue. Again this is very rare, but it can occur. If you have any further questions about any of the procedures, please feel free to contact us.
